With clear inspiration from classical dovetail joints, the three laser-cut elements create a balance between the curve's pull and the tension of the slots, elegantly locking the three movable parts. IB is an exploration of form and material purity. The lounge table stands as a graphic and sculptural element, where its outline is sharp and precise, contrasted by the soft, gradient light reflection created by the depth of the rolled curve. The raw, brushed aluminium surface mirrors its surroundings and changes character with the light, while the hardness and material rawness of the metal enter into a conscious dialogue with its potentially closest and softer relation — the sofa.
IB is a lounge table created by the design duo Studio Taktil as a further development of their joint graduation project from the Royal Danish Academy, School of Architecture. The lounge table originates from investigations of the Danish architect Ib Lunding's characteristic curved design language. The name itself, IB, was chosen as a direct tribute to Ib Lunding — a reference that simultaneously mirrors the silhouette of the table, which graphically forms the letters I and B when the furniture is viewed directly from the side.
The piece has previously been presented during 3 Days of Design and exhibited at Mark Kenly Domino Tan in 2024, and displayed in the interior shop Tadaima in Copenhagen, which, with its curated universe, frames uncompromising design, aesthetic quality and solid craftsmanship.
